M-Expo!

Asalam alaikum people,

Abuja, Nigeria’s capital is set to host the maiden Muslim Expo on 22nd November, 2009. The theme for this edition is ‘Providing Alternative Platforms for Merchandising’ and it is being organised by Medium Source Concept.

Venue is The Pavillion, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Maitama, Abuja. Time: 9am – 5pm.

It promises to feature the exhibition of ethical goods and services, yard sale/auction, free seminar on bee therapy and so much more.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to post details for those who miss the event.

I was checking some stuff online when I came across this site www.b10eclectics.com. They are involved in prints, clothings, business process outsourcing and corporate promotional merchandise. The company is based in Lagos and is owned by some cool muslim brothers. Their products are really NEAT! OGQ2 is the name of their clothing line and what makes it special is that it is dedicated to the memory of one of the founders – Ojikutu Adeyemi Miftah. From Allah we come and to Him is our return. So, to the crew at b10eclectics, I say thumbs up and may you continue to grow in leaps and bounds. Amin.

A Warm Welcome!

I was at my old school a couple of days ago and I exchanged greetings with a fellow sister. She responded to my greetings but then accused me of not recognising her. Truly, I did not recognise her. She was dressed in a green gown with a green hijab to match. The last time I saw her, her hair was uncovered. To say I was excited is an understatement. It takes real guts to start wearing the hijab even though we all know it is Allah’s commandment. In reply to my questions, she told me she only started wearing the hijab 3 weeks ago. She had wanted to start wearing it for a while but she was afraid of what her former boyfriends would say. She hasn’t gone home in a while so she has no idea what her mum and siblings’ reactions would be.

Well, I commended her for her courage and told her she owes no ex-boyfriend any explanations for deciding to dress right. In my estimation, they can all go to h**l. As for her family, I pray that they accept her decision but at the same time, I advised her to brace herself incase she has to fight for her faith. I sincerely pray that Allah eases her tasks.

And so, to my wonderful sister in islam, I say welcome to the exclusive club of Allah loving, hijab-wearing muslimahs! As you embark on this chapter of your life, you will be tested, you will lose friends, you will be made fun of and yes, you would be called upon to defend your faith. But the rewards are in multiples. Allah would send families in place of friends, HE would provide from sources you never could imagine. No matter the challenges you go through, please don’t lose sight of the hereafter. Insha Allah, we would all have places in al-jannah firdaus. Amin!

RAMADAN!

Alhamdulilah we are in ramadan! This is the second week and for me, it has been wonderful. The fast has been smooth and my quranic recitation is on course. I have never finished reading the quran in ramadan and I sincerely pray I would be able to do that this year.

Im also in a place where I can attend prayers in congregation so I am taking advantage of that. I have a long list of prayers and I intend to make the best use of this blessed month. So, what are YOU waiting for, join me as we reap the benefits of ramadan.

May Allah accept it from us and admit us into al-jannah. Amin

Early morning connection!

Morning is an integral part of the day and most often than not, actions and events in our mornings have a way of affecting the rest of the day. As Muslimahs, our days can be pretty hectic with our various roles as daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, friends and workers all competing for attention and we have to juggle all these roles throughout our lives.

One of the best ways of acheiving a fruitful day is by allocating a few minutes to connecting with Allah in the mornings. The best period is very early in the morning before salatul subhi, when the house is still quiet, when you can completely concentrate on yourself and hear yourself think. Take a few precious moments to be with Allah.

Perform a few rakahs of salah and then do something extra to earn Allah’s reward. You might recite the quran, reflect on the meanings of a verse, learn a hadith, read an islamic text or simply reflect on the blessings of Allah in your life. Reaffirm your faith, supplicate for the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) and then make dua’a that Allah should guide you in all your affairs.

These would only take a few minutes of your time but it is sure to boost your day. Do this everyday and you will be amazed at the peace you’ll experience throughout the day.

Remember, this period is strictly for you alone, for what better way to start a day than with a total awareness of Allah?

So, get connected to Allah then go ahead to have a smashing day!

Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His light is as a niche and within it a lamp, the lamp is in a glass, the glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow forth, though no fire touched it. Light upon Light! Allah guides to His light whom He wills and Allah sets forth parables for mankind and Allah is All-Knower of everything.

Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother…

Now I understand why Allah stresses the importance of a mother. I have been with my married sisters for the past month and as sisters with kids would say, it is a never-ending job. There were days I was too tired to do anything, days I felt like screaming at my nephews and nieces, days when I simply wanted to run away from it all. Then there were days I couldn’t wait to have my own kids, days I laughed all through from the sheer wonder of being in the midst of kids, days I felt so filled with happiness and a sense of gratitude to Allah for blessing me with such a family.

Yes it really is not easy being a mother but thinking about the vast reward Allah has in store for mothers who have discharged their trusts makes it worthwhile.

Here’s wishing all Mothers Allah’s grace to see you through this all important task. Allah is our only source of strength and He is sufficient for us.
